Grammar tip

English“Il y a” means there is or there are, and it never changes: il y a un lit, il y a deux chaises. In the negative: il n'y a pas de fenêtre. To say where things are: dans (in), sur (on), sous (under), devant (in front of), derrière (behind), entre (between), à côté de (next to). “De” joins with “le”: à côté du lit.
Punjabi (Roman)“Il y a” da matlab hai othe hai ya othe ne, te eh kade nahi badalda: il y a un lit, il y a deux chaises. Nakaar ch: il n'y a pas de fenêtre. Cheezan kithe ne, eh dasan layi: dans (andar), sur (utte), sous (thalle), devant (saahmne), derrière (pichhe), entre (vichkar), à côté de (naal). “De” “le” naal jud jaanda hai: à côté du lit.

Common mistake for Punjabi and Hindi speakers

✗ Il y a pas une fenêtre.   ✓ Il n'y a pas de fenêtre.Two slips in one: the ne is missing, and after a negative un / une / des become de.
Ikko ch do galtiyan: ne reh gaya, te nahi (negative) ton baad un / une / des badal ke de ban jande ne.
ਇੱਕੋ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਗਲਤੀਆਂ: ne ਰਹਿ ਗਿਆ, ਤੇ ਨਾਂਹ (negative) ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ un / une / des ਬਦਲ ਕੇ de ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਨੇ।
एक में दो ग़लतियाँ: ne छूट गया, और नकार (negative) के बाद un / une / des बदलकर de बन जाते हैं।

Voici mon appartement. Il est petit, mais je l'aime bien.
Il y a une cuisine, un salon, une chambre et une salle de bain.

Mon lit est dans la chambre, à côté de la porte.
Il n'y a pas de jardin, mais il y a un parc derrière l'immeuble.

English: This is my apartment. It is small, but I like it. There is a kitchen, a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. In the kitchen there is a table and four chairs. In the living room there is a big window. The sofa is in front of the window. My bed is in the bedroom, next to the door. There is no garden, but there is a park behind the building.

Punjabi (Roman): Eh mera apartment hai. Chhota hai, par mainu pasand hai. Is ch ik rasoi, ik baithak, ik saun wala kamra te ik gusalkhana hai. Rasoi ch ik mez te chaar kursiyan ne. Baithak ch ik vaddi khidki hai. Sofa khidki de saahmne hai. Mera bistra kamre ch hai, darvaze de naal. Bagicha nahi hai, par imarat de pichhe ik park hai.
