Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how French Saathi Canada ("French Saathi", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, discloses and safeguards personal information in connection with the French Saathi website and application (the "Service"), in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Use without an account. No personal information is transmitted to us. Study progress and language preference are stored locally in the User's browser.

2.2 Account information. Where an account is created, we collect the User's email address.

2.3 Usage and progress data. Lessons completed, quiz and mock test results, activity streaks, vocabulary progress, and any name entered for the purpose of a certificate.

2.4 Billing information. Payment card and billing details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. We receive only a customer identifier, the status of the Subscription and the date to which it is paid.

2.5 Automated feedback. Text submitted for automated feedback, and a count of such requests per month.

2.5A Device identifier. For paid accounts, a random identifier generated by and stored in the User's browser, together with the time of last use, for the sole purpose of enforcing the device limits set out in the Terms of Use. The identifier does not disclose the make, model or location of the device.

2.6 Technical data. Standard technical information, such as IP address and browser type, is processed by our hosting provider in the ordinary course of delivering the Service.

3. Purposes of Use

Personal information is used solely to:

(a) authenticate Users and maintain accounts;
(b) synchronise study progress across devices;
(c) provide access to paid features and administer billing;
(d) respond to inquiries and requests;
(e) maintain the security and integrity of the Service; and
(f) comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information, do not display advertising, and do not use third-party advertising trackers.

4. Service Providers and Cross-Border Processing

4.1 We disclose personal information only to the following service providers, and only to the extent required for them to perform their functions:

Supabase: authentication and database hosting;
Cloudflare: website hosting and delivery;
Stripe: payment processing;
Anthropic: processing of text submitted for automated feedback;
Google Fonts: delivery of typefaces, which involves a request from the User's browser to Google.

4.2 These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction.

5. Speech Recognition

Where a User elects to respond by voice, speech-to-text conversion is performed by the User's browser, which may rely on an online service operated by the browser's vendor. We do not record or retain audio.

6. Local Storage and Cookies

The Service uses the browser's local storage to retain study progress, language preference and the sign-in session. We do not use advertising cookies.

7. Retention

Personal information is retained for as long as the account remains active. Upon a verified deletion request, account information and progress data will be deleted within thirty (30) days, save for information we are required by law to retain. Transaction records are retained by Stripe in accordance with its own legal obligations.

8. Safeguards

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit and access controls restricting each User to their own records. No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

9. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, a User may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal information, and may withdraw consent to its further processing, by writing to us from the email address registered to the account. We may take reasonable steps to verify identity before acting on a request. A User who is not satisfied with our response may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

10. Children

The Service is not directed to children under the age of thirteen (13), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

11. Amendments

We may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date above will be updated accordingly, and material amendments will be notified by email to registered Users.
