Grammar tip

EnglishEvery French noun is masculine or feminine. Le / un for masculine, la / une for feminine, les / des for plural. “My” changes too: mon père, ma mère, mes enfants. Learn each word together with its le or la.
Punjabi (Roman)French ch har naam masculine ya feminine hunda hai. Masculine layi le / un, feminine layi la / une, plural layi les / des. “Mera” vi badalda hai: mon père, ma mère, mes enfants. Har shabad nu usde le ya la de naal hi yaad karo.

Common mistake for Punjabi and Hindi speakers

✗ Mon mère   ✓ Ma mère“My” agrees with the thing you own, not with you. Mère is feminine, so it is ma mère, even when a man is speaking.
“Mera/meri” bolan wale naal nahi, cheez naal badalda hai. Mère stri-ling hai, is layi ma mère, chahe bolan wala banda munda hove.
“ਮੇਰਾ/ਮੇਰੀ” ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਚੀਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਬਦਲਦਾ ਹੈ। Mère ਇਸਤਰੀ-ਲਿੰਗ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ma mère, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਬੋਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੁੰਡਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
“मेरा/मेरी” बोलने वाले से नहीं, चीज़ से बदलता है। Mère स्त्रीलिंग है, इसलिए ma mère, चाहे बोलने वाला लड़का हो।

Punjabi (Roman): Eh mera parivaar hai. Mere pita da naam Raj hai te meri maa da naam Simran. Mera ik bhra te ik bhain hai. Mere pati da naam Karan hai. Saade do bache ne. Meri saheli Lina saade nede rehndi hai.
