Grammar tip

EnglishUse “vous” with strangers, officials and when addressing the examiner directly. Use “tu” with friends and family. In a speaking role-play, choose “tu” or “vous” according to the assigned relationship; a friend role-play normally uses “tu”.

Common mistake for Punjabi and Hindi speakers

✗ Salut, monsieur !   ✓ Bonjour, monsieur.At home we greet everyone the same way, but French “salut” is only for friends. With the examiner or anyone you don't know, say “bonjour” and use “vous”.
